Can silver pieces get stained, dirty or oxidized?
Pure silver does not oxidize. However, it can react with certain compounds present in the air, such as hydrogen sulfide, causing a superficial discoloration, known as "patina." This patina can give the jewelry a blackened appearance that is sometimes mistaken for rust.
To clean silver, put one or two tablespoons of baking soda in a container and gradually add dish soap. Stir the mixture until it forms a consistent paste . Then, with the help of a cloth, apply the solution to the object and rub all parts well. Leave it to act for a couple of minutes and remove the paste with water. You can use a brush to clean the reliefs or corners of the piece.
